8 ? Federico Fellini Film 8 ? by Italian director Federico Fellini was one of the most influential film of the post-war 1960? s. Nevertheless, this film is an Italian comedy which was based on Guido Anselmi a famous Italian film director. Guido Anselmi has a mental block when it comes to his film, (ââ¬Å"directorââ¬Ës blockâ⬠) and struggles with his flash backs, dreams, and reality. Federico Fellini made 8 ? in a non-chronological way, which means that the film has no shot order. Guidoââ¬â¢s dreams and reality intertwined throughout the entire film. This throws the audience off track but Guidoââ¬â¢s on and off dream, memory and reality shotââ¬â¢s in the end come to making sense. Fellini used mise-en-scene for 8 ?. Mise-en-scene is a French term which means ââ¬Å"what is put into the scene/frameâ⬠. Fellini knows the importance of lighting, background, and location. This is what makes the audience more aware and also helps understand what is happening throughout the film. For example, in one of the scenes, Fellini shows Guido speaking to his father and the camera angles shows his father standing in the foreground. This makes Guidoââ¬â¢s father look smaller in the background. This is a very good example of mise-en-scene because itââ¬â¢s defined as the articulation of cinematic space. In this film Fellini took very good advantage of the frame. His way of placing characters is quite fascinating he almost places them like if theyââ¬â¢d been on a stage while filmmaking. Camerawork was the second of many techniques that Federico Fellini used for the production of 8 ?. The way Fellini used the camera to show close ups, long shots, images, frame within a frame, and montage were very eye catching to the audience. One example would be, the scene where Guido remembers when he was younger and how he was wrapped with sheets. Then suddenly he starts to fantasize that all the women who live in the house with him, where carrying him. Fellini focused on that specific scene where Guido? s face is far beyond noticeable on the camera and the viewer can clearly see his face expressions. The audience can almost feel as if they where there with Guido in that same house. Another good example of Felliniââ¬â¢s great camerawork would be the scene where Guido is in some sort of sauna with many men and women, and the audience can clearly see Guidoââ¬â¢s facial expressions when he sees the woman in some sort of bath robe walking to her side of the women? sauna. Guido rapidly, gets distracted and the viewers are able to see the close up on Guidoââ¬â¢s face. Following the scene where Guido is called to speak to his eminence, the camera deep focus on the window that is opening and vapor is coming out. Guidoââ¬â¢s eminence is being bathed by his helpers. Fellini really embraced the fact that Guido is very religio us since he was very young. Despite his crazy fantasies, and memories, he still seeks for his eminence to obtain permission to do his film. However, the camera work is not the only technique that makes this film special. The shadows, dark lighting and the use of location are also, very important in 8 ?. Federico Fellini made the audience more aware of what was happening throughout the film. Location is where the moviegoers can connect with the film. To conclude Federico Felliniââ¬â¢s film 8 ? was very amusing despite the confusion it caused through the film. The audience struggles to see if itââ¬â¢s reality that is happening in Guidoââ¬â¢s life or if itââ¬â¢s just another of his dreams. Research biases The biases towards conducting the research considered the ethical use of the data collected. The data collected from the secondary sources were to be used for only one purpose. Any deviation from this purpose could have resulted in an unethical conduct. There were no discrimination between any culture, colour or religion while collecting the data. No comments were made or predictions were drawn that could have highlighted any biases towards any organisations. The language used was also professional so that people cannot get offended by reading the research. How did you explore victim and violence? As an assessed drama piece based on ââ¬Å"Domestic Violenceâ⬠, the group I was in explored victim and violence by using a number of explorative strategies and drama mediums. In the play, we explored the feeling of being a victim of violence and how a victim of violence becomes a violator. The play that we performed was based on two key words from the song, ââ¬Å"Behind the Wallâ⬠by Tracy Chapman. The two words are: victim and violence. The playââ¬â¢s main theme is irony. The play revolves around two characters that used to attend school together. One of the characters, Catherine ââ¬â played by Bronwyn, had a low status at school and was always bullied. The other character, Kevin ââ¬â played by Sean, was a bully and therefore had a higher status. However, as time passes Kevin becomes a low status character and Catherine evolves into a high status character. This results in the bullied person now being the bully and one day meeting the character who bullied her through childhood. There is also a waiter ââ¬â played by Oliver, and a waitress - played by Joelle. The first scene was set in a modern day, British cafà ©. To make the audience aware of the setting, a still image was used as the opening of the play. The still image consisted of 2 chairs facing each other, one down stage left and one up stage right. In front of each chair was a main character. The high status character, Catherine, was placed in front of the chair down stage left. Catherine stood in a slouchy position and her hair a mess. This gave the audience a clue that Catherine was of a higher status. The low status character, Kevin, was placed in front of the chair up stage right. Kevin stood with his head positioned towards the floor. The reason the low status character was placed backstage was to give the audience a hint of the charactersââ¬â¢ social status. This is because a stereotypical low status person is more likely to blend into the background of a cafà © than sit near the front window to be viewed by passing pedestrians. Behind each chair, facing down stage, was a waiter/waitress. The movements of the waiter and waitress were performed synchronistical. This means that they both walked to the table at the same time and both spoke at the same time. This was used to show that the waiter and waitress were of equal status and relevantly insignificant in the play. The two characters of the play are complete contrasts.

Document Based question essays My mom always told me the story of when President John F. Kennedy was shot and killed. She distinctly remembered where she was, who she was with, and what she felt. I couldnt relate to her at all, and I honestly believed Id never be able to. September 11th, 2001 started off like any normal school day for me. It was one of the first days of my freshman year in high school. The morning was normal, until I realized a lot of kids were getting sent home early. I thought it was a coincidence. I didnt know what had happened until our principal made an announcement over the loud speaker informing us of that mornings events. It took a while to completely settle in and for me to realize what had happened. I didnt know much, but from what I knew, many innocent people were killed. All through lunch and the rest of the school day, other students were crying because of family members or friends that they knew who worked in the World Trade Centers. I watched in horror as my friends were franticall y trying to reach their parents to make sure they were ok. When I got home, I sat down and finally got to see what really happened. I couldnt believe it. Seeing two airplanes filled with people smashing into two office buildings was unbelievable. I will never get the picture of those planes out of my mind. When I first saw it happen my eyes filled with tears. The whole night I watched the news broadcasts of what happened and I cried through the whole thing. So many emotions were running through me! Scared, upset, angry, and hateful. I didnt know how else to show them except by crying. Nobody that I knew personally had died, but a boy thats my age, in my school lost his father. It will also draw from some of the great thinkers in history including John Hick, Immanuel Kant, David Hume, Isaac Newton, Karl Marx, Hildegard of Bingen, Descartes, Stephen Hawking and John Milton as well as the physical sciences and philosophical disciplines to provide evidence or disprove the existence of a higher power. John Milton a rgued that a restriction on the freedoms of thought also indicated an expectation that the citizens should allow someone else to do their thinking for them. This lack of use would lead to the same decay in form and ability that could be seen physically when muscles of the body were not used, creating people who were no longer able to determine morals and ethics on their own. This creation of automatons with no capacity for thinking on their own would serve only the devilââ¬â¢s work as it separates them from their natural spiritual path. He uses as support for his argument the idea that even God himself opted not to have automatons serving him on earth, but instead imbued mankind with the ability to think, and choose, for himself. Pointing to human reactions as proof, Milton said no one respects, loves or honors things that give love, obedience or devotion merely as a result of force or fear of the consequences. Instead, he says it is only through effort and experience that we are able to come to realize the depth of love freely given from one to another. In the same way, he says God places tests in front of people as a way of measuring them, testing their spirit and beliefs, allowing them to further define themselves in Godââ¬â¢s own image if they so choose or to veer off in their own direction. ââ¬Å"God therefore left him free, set before him a provoking object, ever almost in his eyes; herein consisted his merit, herein the right of his reward, the praise of his abstinenceâ⬠(Milton, 1927). According to Milton, God intentionally places temptations and risks in front of us as a means of helping us to develop spiritually. By removing these tests and obstacles, the government is forsaking the intentions of God, standing in the way of the spiritual development of the nation and leaving it ripe for moral, ethical and social decay. As God himself entrusted the care, guidance and governance of each spirit each to itself, Milton argues that it is not th e place of the state or the church to impose its will upon the choices of the individual. Thus, religious liberty is defined as being the ability to exercise the freedom of choice in relation to what a man does, reads, thinks, speaks and dreams. In his arguments regarding the nature and existence of God, Descartes said that it does not matter whether we are dreaming or not because whatever our intellect tells us is, in fact, true.
